ARGH (Autism Rights Group Highland)

ARGH, the Autism Rights Group Highland, is a collective advocacy, lobbying and campaigning group based in the Highlands of Scotland.

We are run by and for autistic adults. The ARGH committee and full voting members are all autistic.

ARGH works locally in the Scottish Highlands, nationally across Scotland, the UK and internationally, including through membership of the European Council of Autistic People (EUCAP).

ARGH works in partnership with the Scottish Government by being members of the Autism Strategy Review Group and its sub groups, as a regional delivery partner for the Scottish Government Improving Understanding of Autism programme and is a member of the Cross Party Group on Autism as well as a stakeholder for National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines relevant to autistic people.

We promote self advocacy for all Autistic people.

ARGH is an organisation that:

  • Informs service providers about what autistic people really experience.
  • Campaigns for better services for autistic people in Highland and beyond.
  • Challenges stigma and discrimination through education about autistic strengths.

National Autistic Society Scotland (Highland)

We are here to help autistic people and their families in the Highlands of Scotland. Our branch was formed in 2021, it is run by a committee of volunteers. The main aim of our branch is to support and create opportunities for autistic individuals and their families, and to raise awareness of the realities of autistic life in order to promote greater acceptance.

Autism & Neurodiversity

Autism & Neurodiversity North Scotland (A-ND) was founded in 1987 by a small group of parents and professionals (Rose Clayton MBE, pictured with Claire, Shona and Billy above), who were concerned for the needs of autistic individuals, their parents and carers. We were the first organisation of our kind in the region to offer help and support to autistic individuals, their families and wider support networks.

Beginning as a support group, we have slowly expanded over time, firstly as a parent-run organisation in 1987 and later constituted into a charity in 1989.

As of October 2024, we have a growing staff team of almost 70 people (25 in 2021) and have provided direct, ongoing support and services to 186 individuals and families (100 in 2021) throughout Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray and Highlands (North Scotland) in the last year alone, as well as providing support to 108 individuals through a variety of support groups in person (0 in 2021). This means in the last year, we have provided direct support to284 individuals and familiesthroughout the north of Scotland. We also have almost 700 members on our online support group and page.
